Dr. Shivinder Singh Gill is a highly accomplished and experienced medical professional with over 40 years of experience in the medical education and research field. His expertise lies in hospital administration, general administration, and education management, with a proactive approach to social services. He has made significant contributions to the medical field through his research, publications, and project initiatives.
Dr. Gill has a strong academic background, with a degree in MBBS from Government Medical College, Rohtak, Haryana, India, and an M.S. in Orthopedics from PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. He also holds an M.A.M.S. from the National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India, and an F.A.M.S. from the same institution.
He has held several key positions in the medical field throughout his career, including Chairperson of the Centre of Excellence at Shalby Multispecialty Hospital, Mohali, and Dean of Gian Sagar Medical College & Hospital, Patiala. He also served as Vice Chancellor (President) of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, Punjab, India, for six years, where he set up the University Centre of Excellence in Research and Ph.D. programmes in all Health Sciences Specialties.
Dr. Gill has an impressive resume with a wealth of experience and achievements. He has worked as the Chairperson for assignments by NAAC Bangalore, UGC, and MCI as an expert. He was awarded the Emeritus Professor by Medical Council and UCLA fellowship. Dr. Gill was granted a three-year super specialty in Pediatric Ortho Pediatric Surgery at the University of California Los Angeles.
He has published 83 research articles, including 55 national and 25 international publications, along with three books. His research areas include the impact of uranium and other heavy metals on health, water for health, recent advances in assisted reproductive technology, and preservation and digitization in evidence-based medicine.
Dr. Gill has also initiated several major projects and fund generation programmes, including the completion of three university buildings (administrative, academic, and medical college) worth Rs. 73.36 crores and the Cancer Unit and Nuclear Medicine Department worth Rs. 36 crores. He established the Health Sciences Library Network (HSLIBNET) in 2009, which generated Rs. 7.3 crores, and set up an Ayurvedic Clinical Research Centre in collaboration with the Department of AYUSH, Government of India, New Delhi, worth Rs. 1 crore.
Dr. Gill has received several awards and recognitions for his contributions to the medical field, including the Scroll of Honor from the North Zone of the India Orthopedics Association in 2002 and the Bhagat Pooran Singh Award from Punjab, India, in 2007. He was also awarded the Baba Farid Award for Honesty in Punjab, India, in 2009.
Dr. Gill is a member of 42 professional associations, including the Medical Council of India, New Delhi, the Central Council of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi, and the Committee constituted by Hon’ble Governor Punjab for Punjab State Cancer & Drug Addiction Treatment Infrastructure Fund Act 2013. He has organized 65 conferences, seminars, workshops, and symposiums sponsored by CSIR/DST/ICMR/PSCST/IC-IMPACTS, Canada, and signed nine Memorandums of Understanding with universities and institutions in Canada and India.
In addition to his extensive experience in the medical education and research field, he is also a former Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences and a Senate member of the Syndicate, which are the highest decision-making bodies of Punjab University, Chandigarh. He has also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Design and Fine Arts.
As the former Head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Medical Superintendent at PGI Chandigarh, he has demonstrated his abilities as an able administrator and visionary guide. He is a respected teacher and has supervised many PhD candidates during his tenure as a professor of orthopaedics at PGI Chandigarh.
Along with his professional accomplishments, he is also an active social worker with a mission to improve the lives of those around him. He has organized various medical camps in the village of Dangarh and helped over 500 villagers receive proper treatment and education. He has also authored several books and research publications, including “Impact of Uranium and other Heavy Metals on Health”, “Water for Health”, “Recent Advances in Assisted Reproductive Technology”, and “Preservation and Digitization in Evidence-Based Medicine”. He is a critic and a researcher, always seeking to improve his field and contribute to societal development.
