Dr. Diljit K. Chatha is a highly accomplished Professor of English at Prairie View A&M University. With an extensive academic background and years of teaching experience, Dr. Chatha has made significant contributions to the field of English literature and education.
Dr. Chatha holds a Ph.D. in English from Texas Women’s University, which she completed in 1984. She also earned an M.A. in American Literature from Texas Christian University in 1975 and an M.A. in British Literature from Jodhpur University in 1963.
Throughout her career, Dr. Chatha has taught at various colleges in both India and the United States. In 1987, she joined the Department of Languages & Communications at Prairie View A&M University, where she continues to inspire and educate students. Her dedication to teaching excellence was recognized in 1996 when she was voted Teacher of the Year by the Prairie View A&M student body.
Dr. Chatha has a strong research background and has published scholarly articles in her field. She has also presented her work at numerous professional conferences, showcasing her expertise and contributing to the academic discourse. Her commitment to academic excellence was acknowledged with the Cornelia Vainer Award for Academic Excellence from Texas Woman’s University in 1980.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Dr. Chatha actively engages in the university community. She has served on Prairie View A&M’s Graduate Council and its task force, contributing her expertise to the development and enhancement of the university’s programs. In 2001, she played a crucial role in the revision of the master of arts program in English, leading to the implementation of a three-track program.
Dr. Chatha’s commitment to fostering academic excellence extends to her role as the Faculty Advisor for Sigma Tan Delta, the international English honor society. She also takes on the responsibility of coordinating the session on pedagogical frontiers of cyberspace for the South Central Modern Language Association’s 2006 meeting.
