Dr. S.K. Mehta


Dr. S. K. Mehta is a distinguished academic and researcher in the field of Chemistry. As the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, UT, and a Professor at the Department of Chemistry, he has made significant contributions to the scientific community.

With a vast array of achievements and accolades, Prof. Mehta’s expertise and dedication have been recognized globally. He holds the esteemed title of Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and has been acknowledged as one of the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University in 2021.

Prior to his current position, Prof. Mehta served as the Chairman of Chemistry and Director of SAIF/CIL/UCIM at Panjab University, Chandigarh. He has also played key roles as the Coordinator of the Chandigarh Region Innovation Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC), the Local Coordinator of the MHRD initiative GIAN, and the Coordinator of UGC CAS at Panjab University.

Prof. Mehta’s contributions to research are remarkable, with a substantial number of patents, publications, and books to his name. Malik Memorial Award of the Indian Council of Chemists (ICC).

In addition to his research contributions, Prof. Mehta is a dedicated educator. He has guided numerous post-doctoral, Ph.D., and Master’s students, sharing his expertise and fostering their growth in the field of Chemistry. He has also successfully led several research projects and collaborations with national and international institutions.

Prof. Mehta’s research interests span a wide range of topics, including colloidal chemistry, nanochemistry, and environmental remediation. His work on soft assemblies and nanoparticle synthesis has yielded significant advancements in areas such as drug delivery, electrochemical sensors, and environmental sustainability.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he played a pivotal role in developing copper-based antiviral coatings for masks and the manufacturing of the anti-viral spray ‘VOX.’ These contributions demonstrate his commitment to leveraging chemistry for the betterment of society and public health.
