With his wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field of law, Advocate Navkiran Singh will play a vital role in guiding and shaping the university’s strategic initiatives.
Advocate Navkiran Singh has an impressive legal background, having practiced in various courts and commissions, including the Supreme Court of India, Punjab & Haryana High Court, National Human Rights Commission, Punjab State Human Rights Commission, and NRI Commission of Punjab.
Throughout his career, Advocate Navkiran Singh has been deeply involved in championing human rights causes. He notably served as a special counsel for the “Peoples Commission” constituted by the “Committee for Disappearances in Punjab,” representing cases related to human rights violations in Punjab from 1984 to 1994. His work alongside retired judges of the Supreme Court of India and High Court showcases his commitment to justice and fairness.
Advocate Navkiran Singh’s international experience in law is also commendable. He registered as a “Foreign Legal Consultant” with the Law Society of British Columbia and worked with Kang Abrahams Chahal, Barristers and Solicitors in Vancouver, Canada. Notably, he was part of the defense team in the high-profile AIR INDIA CRASH trial, further highlighting his expertise and dedication.
Having represented victims in numerous cases related to detenus detained under national security acts, Advocate Navkiran Singh has been a prominent advocate for justice. He has also been involved in matters such as Habeas Corpus Petitions, custodial violence, illegal detentions, and extra-judicial executions. Additionally, he has actively filed public interest petitions on pro bono basis, addressing human rights violations, environmental pollution, and ecological imbalance.
Advocate Navkiran Singh’s specialization in family laws, marriage law, adoption acts, and criminal appeals under the Indian Penal Code further enhances his versatility as a legal professional. His extensive experience and involvement in passport matters, including appeals before the Appellate Authority and writs in the High Court, showcase his comprehensive understanding of the legal landscape.
Recognized as an expert witness in courts abroad, Advocate Navkiran Singh has provided invaluable insights on Indian laws, human rights, and the situation in Punjab in various extradition hearings, immigration and refugee boards, and special courts across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
In addition to his legal accomplishments, Advocate Navkiran Singh has submitted expert reports in asylum cases before the First Tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) in the United Kingdom, further establishing his commitment to supporting those seeking refuge.
