Dr. Daljit Singh


Dr Daljit Singh, former Counsellor (Science & Technology), Embassy of India, Washington DC, USA, is a distinguished chemical engineer who has made extensive and significant contributions in education, research and development, industrial consultancy, international diplomacy, and S&T administration and policy formulation, in India and USA. 

Dr. Singh obtained his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the prestigious University of California, Berkeley, USA. His outstanding research work earned him a nomination to the Honor Society of Sigma-Xi, USA, recognizing his excellence in doctoral research. Prior to his Ph.D., he completed his B.Tech. from Panjab University, securing the first position in the university with distinction and setting a new record for the highest marks obtained.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Singh has received numerous awards and honors. Notable accolades include the Panjab University Gold Medal for his first position in the university, the Fulbright Award (USA), the UNESCO-UNDP Fellowship, the Earl C Anthony Fellowship (USA), and the Commendation Medal and Certificate of the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers for his outstanding research contributions. His remarkable achievements have been acknowledged both in India and abroad. He has been honored as a ‘Distinguished Alumnus’ by the Panjab University Alumni Association and has received recognition from various US universities and professional bodies for his efforts in promoting US-India collaborations in science and technology. The American Institute of Chemists also bestowed upon him an Honorary Fellowship for his notable contributions to science and technology collaborations and diplomacy.

Dr. Singh has been actively involved in numerous committees and organizations related to entrepreneurship, regulatory agencies, government bodies, universities, and professional societies. He has served as a member of the CII-NR Committee on Startups and Entrepreneurship, Punjab Technical University Committee on Entrepreneurship, the Governing Body of the Haryana Agro-industries Corporation R&D Centre, the State Audit Advisory Board of the Principal Accountant General Punjab, and the editorial boards of the Indian Plastics Institute and Panjab University Research Journal, among others. Additionally, he has been associated with esteemed academic institutions such as Thapar Institute, UPES, and Punjab Technical University, serving on their respective Senate and Academic Councils.

With over four decades of distinguished experience, Dr. Daljit Singh has held several prestigious positions in India and the USA. Notably, he served as the Counsellor (Science and Technology) at the Embassy of India in Washington DC, USA. He has also been a visiting faculty member at Cornell University, Ithaca, and the University of California, Davis, USA. In India, he held key roles such as Chairperson of the Department of Chemical Engineering & Technology and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology at Panjab University, Chandigarh. Additionally, he served as the Director General of Doaba Group of Colleges, Punjab, and as the Chairman of the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Punjab.
