Dr. Kumar currently serves as a Mental Health Primary Clinician on contract with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, where he plays a crucial role in providing mental health services within the correctional system. He also runs a private consulting practice, leveraging his extensive experience to assist businesses in maintaining healthy relationships, promoting team building, and preventing emotional, legal, and systemic issues.
Dr. Kumar’s professional journey began in 1983 when he worked as a social scientist (Psychologist) with the World Health Organization’s Collaborative Center for Mental Health and Research in Chandigarh, India. Since then, he has held various positions in the mental health field, including owning and operating state-licensed assisted living and skilled nursing facilities across California, catering to the elderly, mentally and developmentally disabled individuals.

Driven by his passion for community service, Dr. Kumar has volunteered thousands of hours in various community leadership roles. Notably, he served as an Executive Committee Member of the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County from 2003 to 2014, contributing to fostering interfaith dialogue and understanding. He also held positions such as Commissioner for the City of Concord on the Human Relations Commission and Chair of the Commission, Trustee of the Board of Trustees of Ik Onkar Peace Foundation, and Member of the Board of Directors of Monument Community Partnership (MCP).
