Dr. Tara Singh Kamal


Dr. Tara Singh Kamal, Fellowship of The Institution of Engineers India (FIE), Fellow Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (FIETE),  Fellow of Life Sr MIEE- Life Member Indian Science Congress Association, BE (EC), ME (Communication Systems) From University of ROORKEE (now IIT), Gold Medalist and PhD from PANJAB UNIVERSITY. Dr. T.S. Kamal is an accomplished academic and researcher with extensive experience in the field of engineering. He holds several prestigious titles and has made significant contributions to the advancement of science and technology.

With a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication from the University of Roorkee (now IIT), Professor Kamal went on to earn his Master’s degree in Communication Systems. He excelled academically, earning the Gold Medal during his studies. He further pursued his passion for research and obtained his Ph.D. from Panjab University.

Professor Kamal began his career as an Assistant Professor and later retired as a Professor from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. He also held the position of Professor and Officer on Special Duty at SLIET Longowal (Deemed to be University).

Throughout his career, Professor Kamal has guided and mentored numerous scholars and students. He has successfully supervised 26 scholars who have completed their Ph.D. degrees, and he continues to oversee the research work of five more individuals. Additionally, he has provided guidance to 40 students pursuing their Master’s degrees, shaping their academic and research endeavors. His research contributions are highly esteemed, with over 230 published research papers in renowned international and national referred journals. He has also presented his research findings at numerous international and national conferences, further showcasing his expertise in the field.

In 1972, Professor Kamal joined the Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI), a prominent professional organization, as a member. His dedication and contributions led to his election to the State Centre Committee in 1980, followed by his appointment as Honorary Secretary in 1989 and State Centre Chairman in 1999. In 1991, he became a member of the IEI Council, a position he still holds to this day. Throughout his association with IEI, he has held various significant positions, including Vice President and Chairman, and has actively participated in important statutory committees.

Professor Kamal’s exceptional work has been recognized and honored. He has been awarded the Sir Thomas Ward Gold Medal twice for the best papers published in the ET journal of IEI. In addition, he has instituted four awards to recognize the achievements of outstanding female students. These awards include recognition for the best performing students at his former school, both in the boys’ and girls’ sections, located in his native village, Dhanaula, Distt. Barnala.

Professor (Dr.) T.S. Kamal FIE’s remarkable academic career, prolific research contributions, and dedication to the advancement of engineering make him a highly respected and influential figure in the field. His extensive knowledge and expertise continue to contribute to the growth and development of the scientific community.

  1. Marvelous achievements and research contributions. I lack words to describe. I must congratulate you for the splendid research work done and medals received. If I remember, had opportunity to have audio chat with you last year on your trip to USA and invitation to stay in Institution of Engineers Building in Chandigarh on my visit to Chandigarh. I could not avail of the offer as I had two accidents and was in hospitals for 4 months. God bless you.
