Serving as the Additional Managing Director from November 2017 to September 2019, Bal Mukand oversaw portfolios worth INR 1,600 Cr., encompassing Fertilizers, Agrochemicals, Cattle feed, Edible products, Agri exports, and Public relations divisions. His astute management skills and adeptness in forging long-term relationships contributed significantly to Markfed’s growth and success.
During his tenure, Bal Mukand played a pivotal role in enhancing Markfed’s market share in fertilizer distribution from 35% to an impressive 75% in the cooperative sector, a testament to his lobbying efforts and commitment to service excellence. As the administrative and financial head, he supervised six General Managers and exercised budgetary control over fertilizer trading worth INR 1100 Cr.
Prior to his role as Additional Managing Director, Bal Mukand served in various leadership capacities at Markfed, Punjab, including Executive Director, Chief Manager, and Deputy Chief Manager. His achievements include spearheading initiatives such as introducing bar code technology for honey procurement, setting up a state-of-the-art honey processing plant, and implementing advance stocking strategies to mitigate fertilizer shortages.
Outside his professional endeavors, Bal Mukand is actively involved in community welfare and social initiatives. He has held honorary positions such as Chairman of Markfed Staff Education and Welfare Society, President of Markfed Blood Trust, and Chairman of Cooperative Consumer Stores, demonstrating his commitment to employee well-being and community development.

He initiated Markfed’s farmer advisory show ‘Sohna Punjab,’ which has been broadcasted weekly on Doordarshan since January 2016. With over 170 episodes produced and a viewership of approximately 4 lakh farmers, the show has been instrumental in disseminating valuable agricultural knowledge and advice to rural communities. Bal Mukand also spearheaded the establishment of Markfed’s YouTube channel, ‘Sohna Punjab,’ in collaboration with the Punjab Agricultural University and the Department of Agriculture, Punjab Government, to provide timely agricultural guidance to a broader audience. Moreover, his creative endeavors include producing 27 audio and video albums and CDs of Punjabi comedy under the renowned brand ‘Chhankata,’ earning him a household name among Punjabis both in India and abroad. His passion for entertainment has seen him act in numerous Punjabi films, television shows, and video films, showcasing his versatility and talent beyond the boardroom.
