Guru Nanak Global Foundation Launches India’s Industry-Focused Post Graduate Program in Semiconductor Technology and Applications (STA)


A NEP 2020-Aligned Program Designed to Build the Workforce for India’s Semiconductor Mission

Chandigarh, Punjab – In a significant step toward strengthening India’s semiconductor talent ecosystem, Guru Nanak Global Foundation (GNGF) has announced the launch of its flagship Post Graduate Program in Semiconductor Technology and Applications (STA) to support its partner universities. The two-year, industry-integrated postgraduate program with its partners universities has been designed to prepare highly skilled professionals for careers across semiconductor manufacturing, applications engineering, equipment engineering, packaging, testing, reliability, smart manufacturing, and emerging semiconductor technologies.

The program aligns with the vision of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and supports the goals of the Government of India’s expanding semiconductor strategy, including the focus on scaling advanced manufacturing capabilities, semiconductor design, packaging, talent development, and a resilient domestic semiconductor ecosystem.

Developed in accordance with the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the STA program combines multidisciplinary education with experiential learning, sustainability, research, artificial intelligence, innovation, and entrepreneurship to create globally competitive semiconductor professionals.

Responding to India’s Semiconductor Growth

India’s semiconductor industry is entering a transformative phase with investments in fabrication facilities, outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT), compound semiconductor manufacturing, semiconductor design, equipment engineering, and supply chain development. These developments are expected to generate significant demand for engineers and technology professionals with practical industry skills.

The STA program has been created to address this demand by offering a curriculum that integrates semiconductor science with hands-on engineering, digital manufacturing, and professional development. Students will gain expertise in semiconductor manufacturing processes, compound semiconductors, packaging and testing, robotics, equipment maintenance, metrology, failure analysis, artificial intelligence, and smart manufacturing.

A distinguishing feature of the program is its strong emphasis on experiential learning, including laboratory training, research projects, innovation workshops, and a structured one-year industry internship opportunity coordinated through Fab Guardians and its semiconductor ecosystem partners, providing students with real-world industrial exposure.

Supporting the Vision of ISM 2.0

The launch of the STA program comes at a time when India is expanding its semiconductor ambitions through the next phase of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM 2.0). As the ecosystem grows beyond attracting fabrication investments to building a complete value chain, there is an increasing need for a workforce capable of supporting semiconductor manufacturing, equipment services, advanced packaging, design enablement, process optimization, quality engineering, automation, and next-generation technologies.

The STA curriculum has been developed to contribute directly to these national priorities by preparing graduates with the technical knowledge, practical competencies, research capability, and innovation mindset required to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem and enhance its global competitiveness.

The curriculum comprises 104 academic credits delivered across four semesters and is designed around outcome-based education principles with strong industry engagement.

The STA program is intended for graduates in engineering, science, and related disciplines who aspire to build careers in semiconductor manufacturing, equipment engineering, applications engineering, packaging and testing, process engineering, quality and reliability, automation, AI-driven manufacturing, and semiconductor research.

Graduates will be equipped for opportunities across semiconductor fabrication facilities, OSAT companies, equipment manufacturers, electronics manufacturing services, automotive electronics, aerospace, telecommunications, renewable energy, medical electronics, industrial automation, and research organizations.
