Guru Nanak Dev Global University (GNDGU) proudly celebrates a moment of immense pride and gratitude as Dr. Harleen Kaur, Associate Professor of Music at the University’s Center of Excellence – ALAAP, has been awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Music by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
Dr. Harleen Kaur’s doctoral research, centered on the literary and musical legacy of the legendary Punjabi poet Shri Shiv Kumar Batalvi Ji, is a significant scholarly contribution toward preserving and promoting one of Punjab’s most celebrated literary voices. Her work explores the depth of Batalvi’s poetic expression and its enduring influence on Punjabi music, culture, and artistic heritage.
An accomplished music educator, performer, researcher, and cultural ambassador, Dr. Harleen Kaur brings over fifteen years of academic and professional experience to Guru Nanak Dev Global University. Her expertise encompasses Gurmat Sangeet, Punjabi Folk Music, Hindustani Classical Vocal Music, Sufi Music, Ghazals, Light Music, and Contemporary Vocal Arts.
Throughout her distinguished career, she has mentored more than 1,000 students, preparing them for university youth festivals, national competitions, television reality shows, cultural performances, and professional careers in music. Her commitment to preserving India’s rich musical traditions while inspiring future generations aligns perfectly with the University’s vision of integrating heritage with innovation.
Dr. Kaur holds an M.A. in Vocal Music (Gold Medalist), an M.Phil. in Music, and now a Ph.D. in Music from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. She has also published multiple research papers in UGC CARE-listed journals and has received numerous prestigious honors, including the Indo Global Super Women Achiever Award, Kala Rattan Samman, Women’s Achiever Award, and several recognitions for excellence in music education and Punjabi cultural preservation.

At Guru Nanak Dev Global University, Dr. Harleen Kaur serves as Associate Professor of Music at the Center of Excellence – ALAAP, where she is leading the development of innovative curricula in Indian classical music, Punjabi folk traditions, Gurmat Sangeet, music theory, performance studies, and creative leadership. She also mentors students through practical training, research, workshops, masterclasses, and cultural outreach initiatives.
