Guru Nanak Dev Global University (GNDGU) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Nidhi Sharma as Assistant Professor in the RISE – Research, Innovation, Sustainability Engine Centre of Excellence (CoE). Dr. Sharma, a distinguished scholar in mathematics and supply chain optimization, brings a wealth of expertise in sustainable inventory management and metaheuristic techniques, aligning perfectly with GNDGU’s commitment to advancing research in innovation and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Sharma joins GNDGU following her tenure as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Noida Institute of Engineering & Technology (NIET), Greater Noida, where she served from 2015–2020 and again from September 2024 to August 2025. She holds a PhD in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), earned in 2024 under the supervision of Prof. Madhu Jain and co-supervision of Prof. Dinesh K. Sharma from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Her thesis, titled “Inventory Models for the Supply Chain Using Soft Computing Techniques,” focused on intelligent computing for recycling and green supply chains, earning her a coursework.

With research interests spanning supply chain management, inventory control, sustainability, logistics, and optimization (including numerical and metaheuristic methods), Dr. Sharma has authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals such as Environment, Development and Sustainability, IMA Journal of Management Mathematics, and RAIRO-Operations Research. Notable works include her 2025 paper on “Intelligence Computing for Recycling of Products in Multi-Echelon Supply Chain” and collaborations on sustainable inventory prediction using algorithms like Bat and Particle Swarm Optimization. She has also contributed book chapters, such as one on Artificial Intelligence and Nature-Inspired Optimization for Supply Chain Management, and authored several books on Laplace transforms and integral equations.

Dr. Sharma’s accolades include first-place awards for paper presentations at the International Conference on Mathematical Sciences (ICMS-2025) and USTM-AIMT-2022, as well as third place in an essay competition on International Mother Language Day in 2023. She is a lifetime member of the Operational Research Society of India (ORSI) and serves as an editorial board member/reviewer for journals like Operational Research and Asian Resonance. Her technical proficiency in MATLAB, Python, Maple, and SPSS, combined with her participation in numerous international conferences and workshops on topics like warehouse automation and scientific computing, positions her to drive impactful projects at RISE.

“Dr. Nidhi Sharma’s expertise in sustainable supply chain models and soft computing will significantly enhance our RISE CoE’s initiatives in fostering innovative, eco-friendly solutions for global challenges,” said Baljit Singh, Founding Member of GNDGU. “Her proven track record in research and teaching will inspire our students and faculty to push the boundaries of sustainability and optimization.”

Dr. Sharma expressed her enthusiasm: “I am excited to join Guru Nanak Dev Global University and contribute to the RISE CoE. This role allows me to apply my research in green supply chains and metaheuristics to real-world innovations, aligning with the university’s vision of ethical, sustainable progress inspired by Guru Nanak’s teachings.” GNDGU looks forward to Dr. Sharma’s contributions in mentoring students, leading research collaborations, and advancing the university’s sustainability agenda.
