FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Newark, California | July 1, 2026

Guru Nanak Global Foundation (GNGF), in partnership with Roar 4 Change, proudly announced the official launch of SAHELI : Protecting Our Daughters, a landmark community initiative dedicated to empowering women and girls through education, advocacy, support services, and community collaboration.

The inaugural event brought together elected officials, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, educators, healthcare professionals, community representatives, and residents from across the Bay Area to celebrate the beginning of a movement focused on creating safer, stronger, and more inclusive communities.

SAHELI, meaning “a trusted friend,” aims to provide women and girls with access to mentorship, legal guidance, crisis support, educational programs, leadership development, mental wellness resources, and community partnerships. The initiative seeks to foster an environment where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive with dignity, confidence, and equal opportunity.

The Honorable Mayor Michael Hannon attended the inaugural event as Chief Guest and applauded the vision behind the initiative.

“SAHELI represents the very best of community leadership; people coming together to ensure that every woman and every girl has the opportunity to live safely, pursue her dreams, and reach her full potential. Initiatives like this strengthen our city by building compassion, resilience, and opportunity for all. I commend Guru Nanak Global Foundation and Roar 4 Change for their vision and commitment to serving our community.”
