RISE Workshop at R.D. Khosla D.A.V Model Sr. Sec. School, Batala, Punjab, India

Students Take First Steps Towards SDG-Based Innovation and Entrepreneurship

12-August-2026 Batala, Punjab:

R.D. Khosla D.A.V Model Sr. Sec. School, Batala, hosted an inspiring RISE (Radical Innovation, Sustainability & Entrepreneurship) workshop aimed at encouraging students to think differently, identify real-world challenges and develop innovative solutions for a sustainable future.

The workshop was conducted by Mr. Baljit Singh, who engaged with the RISE Programme students and guided them through the next phase of their learning journey. The students are currently exploring the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and understanding how global challenges can become opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship.

As part of the workshop, the students were organised into six teams, each of which will now begin its entrepreneurial journey. The teams will select an SDG-linked problem statement, study the challenge, identify its root causes and work collaboratively to develop an innovative solution.

The initiative is designed to take students beyond classroom learning and introduce them to the complete innovation journey; from problem identification and research to ideation, solution development, prototyping and entrepreneurship.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Baljit Singh said:

“RISE is about changing the way young people look at the world. We want our students to move beyond asking ‘What can I learn?’ and start asking ‘What problem can I solve?’ Every SDG represents a challenge, but within every challenge lies an opportunity to innovate, create and make an impact. These six teams are not just school teams; they are the beginning of six journeys towards becoming young entrepreneurs and changemakers.”

The workshop also emphasised the importance of teamwork, creativity, critical thinking, leadership and social responsibility. Students will work together to transform their selected SDG challenges into practical and innovative ideas.

The RISE Programme at R.D. Khosla D.A.V Model Sr. Sec. School seeks to build a culture where students are encouraged to become innovators, entrepreneurs and responsible global citizens. By connecting education with real-world problems and the SDGs, the programme aims to empower young minds to create solutions that can contribute meaningfully to society.

With the formation of the six teams, the students have now moved into an exciting new phase of their RISE journey—from learning about the SDGs to solving SDG challenges.

RISE: Radical Innovation • Sustainability • Entrepreneurship

From Problems to Ideas. From Ideas to Solutions. From Students to Changemakers.
